Bandhani - or tie and die style-is generally the pride
of
Kuctch,Saurashtra,Rajasthan and Madras.In Tamil Nadu,Batik is an ancient craft,known to have travelled from India to
Indonesia.

Punjab.It is also found in certain parts of Rajasthan and Himachal
Pradesh.
Godiposh are decorative bed spreads which are sometimes quilted.

Gabba,a floor covering crafted by hand embroidery or aplique work on a base of woven wool,felt or Jute.
Commonly known as Namdas,they are also floor covering with felted woollen surface,with or without embroidery.They are
found in different sizes and shapes.
Some of the best known embroidery varieties is
Kasida of Kashmir mostly done on shawls. Extremely delicate,elfin-like,
mostly in plain spotless white
,is the chikan embroidery of Uttar Pradesh.Innumerable styles are found in tribal embroidery,
with striking effects both on silk and cotton,often embellished with mirrors shells,beads and metallic pieces.Fine designs are
worked in applique,where the edges are decorated with tassels and inexpensive jewellery.
Some of the best known Indian emroidery,and probably the oldest,is gold and silver
Zari work.While Zardozi is heavy and
elaborate,
Kamdani is lighter and simpler.The material used is thread of gold or Silver besides thin strips of metal known as
Badia or Gota.There are large number of buyers for Zari and Zari articles in USA,UK,JAPAN,SAUDI ARABIA AND
GERMANY.
Embroidery is also done on leather,felt and velvet-mostly on foot-wear,headgear and handbags.
